「土佐幽考」は「赤野の西にあり」とするが、「地名辞書」は「今和食村、赤野村、西分村、馬之上村等是なり」とし、「日本地理志料」も「和食、赤野、西分、馬ノ上、長谷、桜浜の諸邑」としており現在の芸西村と安芸市赤野がほぼその郷域にあたろう。（p1021）
