当郷の比定地は「続風土記」によれば「今の芳養・田辺・秋津・万呂・三栖五荘の地ならむ」と記し、現在の田辺市および上富田町の一部にかかる一帯といい、「地名辞書」は田辺市の海岸沿い一帯から白浜町にかかる一帯付近に比定していることから、田辺湾岸の広大な地帯と推定される。（p1022）
